Does Deer Tallow have a smell?

Not in the way many people expect.

We use carefully rendered New Zealand deer tallow, which has a much lighter colour and aroma than traditional beef tallow. Each balm is blended with botanical oils, butters and extracts, resulting in a subtle, natural scent rather than an animal smell.

Many customers tell us they were pleasantly surprised by how little they noticed the tallow itself.

Can I use your deer tallow balm on my face?

Yes, many people enjoy using our balms as a facial moisturiser, particularly if they have normal, dry or mature skin.

If your skin is naturally oily or acne-prone, we generally don't recommend using rich tallow balms as an everyday facial moisturiser. Oily skin naturally produces higher levels of sebum, and heavier balms can feel occlusive for some skin types.

If you're unsure, we recommend patch testing first or starting with a small amount.

Always apply tallow balms to freshly cleansed skin.

Where does your deer tallow come from?

Our tallow is sourced from New Zealand deer. It is carefully rendered, filtered and blended in small batches with thoughtfully selected botanical ingredients.

Is deer tallow suitable for sensitive skin?

Our formulations are intentionally simple and designed with sensitive skin in mind. Many products contain soothing botanical ingredients such as calendula, chamomile and kawakawa.

Are your products suitbale for babies?

Our Nurture Baby Barrier Balm has been formulated specifically for delicate skin and contains no added fragrance or essential oils.

For babies under six months, or if your child has a medical skin condition, we recommend seeking advice from your healthcare professional before introducing any new skincare product.

How should I store my balm?

Store your balm in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Because our products are made with natural oils and butters, they may soften in warm weather or become firmer in colder temperatures. This is completely normal and does not affect performance.

How long do Veren deer tallow balms last?

Our balms are best used within 12 months of opening. As with all natural skincare, keeping water out of the jar and replacing the lid after use will help maintain freshness.

Do your products contain preservatives?

Our balms are completely waterless, meaning they do not require conventional preservatives. Instead, we formulate with stable oils and natural vitamin E to help protect the freshness of the ingredients.
