There is a great deal of advice about what we should put on our skin. Young skin, in particular, can come with a surprisingly long list of products, routines and promised solutions.
But young skin is not unfinished adult skin. It is already doing remarkable work of its own.
From the beginning, the skin forms a protective boundary between a child and the world around them. It helps hold moisture in and keep everyday irritants out. It responds to warmth, cold, dribbles, dampness, friction and all the enthusiastic mess of early life.

Protection, rather than perfection
Nurture Barrier Balm was created for the places where young skin needs a little extra protection: cheeks made rosy by wind and dribble, chins that are constantly being wiped, and skin exposed to moisture and everyday irritation.
New Zealand deer tallow forms the nourishing base of the balm. Its rich, cushiony texture helps soften the skin and reduce moisture loss without requiring a long list of ingredients.
Zinc oxide sits on the surface of the skin to create a protective physical barrier, while calendula and chamomile have been infused slowly into the tallow. These gentle botanicals have a long history of use in preparations for delicate and easily unsettled skin.
There is no added fragrance and no essential oil. Nurture smells simply of its ingredients: soft, natural and barely there.
Made for real family life
We wanted Nurture to be useful in the untidy moments of family life.
It can be smoothed across the cheeks before heading out into cold weather, applied around the mouth when dribble and frequent wiping have left the skin looking vulnerable, or used wherever a soft protective layer is helpful.
It is not intended to make young skin flawless. Young skin will still become flushed, dry, grubby and occasionally cross with the world. That is part of being in it.
Nurture is simply there to provide a little comfort and protection while the skin continues doing what skin does best.
As a mother, this understanding has also been deeply personal for me. My youngest son was born with very little vernix on his skin and arrived looking almost as though he had spent too long in a bath! His little feet and fingers were like little raisins. In the weeks that followed, his skin peeled from head to toe. Although it was shocking to witness, he didn't seem to suffer any discomfort.
But since then, he has had periods of eczema and inflammatory rashes. Over time, I found that using tallow-based balm made a noticeable difference for him, helping to calm and support his skin when it felt unsettled, and becoming part of a simple, reassuring rhythm of care.
